LHS Counseling October Newsletter 2019

PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10 Results Are In

Over the next couple weeks, the 9th, 10th  and 11th graders will be getting back their PSAT score report from the spring.  The counselors will be going over their score reports with them and sharing resources to help practice and improve their scores for the next spring assessment they will be taking.  One free way to help prepare for these assessments is through Khan Academy online. Please ask your student to share their score report with you. If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s school counselor.

PSAT/NMSQT for 11th Grade Students is October 16, 2019

The PSAT/NMSQT will be given at Lincoln High School on Wednesday, October 16th.  Students need to report directly to the west gym for the test at 7:40.  The test will begin by 8:00 AM

The PSAT/NMSQT is a practice SAT.  It is also the ONLY test that qualifies our students for the National Merit Scholarship.  Visit www.collegeboard.org to learn more about the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Juniors can register for the PSAT beginning on Monday, September 30th in the Counseling Office.  The fee for the test is $20.00 (cash or money order- no personal checks). If you receive free/ reduced lunch, the fee can be waived (see your counselor for details).

October is MI College Month

We define "COLLEGE" as any post-high school education that results in a certificate or degree, from on-the-job training, trade school, apprenticeship programs to a 2-year or 4-year college or university and beyond.  We stress the best match and fit for each student and their personal goals.

By the end of the month, we aim to have every senior complete at least one college application and complete the FAFSA--Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  Seniors who meet this goal will be eligible for participation in a pizza party later in the year.  We continuously strive to promote a "college-going culture" school-wide.

Students Taking Advanced Placement Courses @ LHS

AP students have been working with their teachers to join their AP Class Section online so they can get feedback on their progress and register for AP exams.  Students will begin registering for the AP exams in the fall.  This is an earlier date than ever before due to changes at the College Board level.

The cost for each AP exam is based on their lunch status.  Full pay--$94/exam.  Free/Reduced--$53/exam.  We are looking at a deadline of November 8 for payment for all exams.  We will have the option to pay online with a credit card.  Stay tuned...
